[ About Vitamin ]
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is an essential nutrient for maintenance, growth, repro-duction and health. Long-term lack of Vitamin C will lead to scurvy. For humans, the main symptoms are gum swelling, slow wound healing, bone deformation, hy-pogenesis, and reducing immunity. As to animals, they are body abnormality, in-side hemorrhage, anorexia, sleeping a lot, reducing immunity, and finally influenc-ing the growth of animals.
Humans, especially aquatic species, need supplementing Vitamin C from outside sources, because they are incapable of synthesizing Vitamin C. Lower dosage addition of Vitamin C can prevent and treat scurvy. Its higher dosage supplementa-tion can improve animals' resistance to illness, environmental and physical stress.

[Supplementing Vitamin C ]

The chemical structure of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) leads to high instability, and is easy to be destroyed by various factors such as mental, light, heat, humidity and high pressure, and release the atom of hydro-gen. Crystal Vitamin C is fairly stable in a dry condition, but is easy to be oxidized and decomposed in solution or a base environment.

The annual capacity of Vitamin C production is above 100 thousand tons in the world and the market value is near 1 billion dollars.

How-ever, after the year of 2000, with the fast growth of Vitamin C industry in China and the strategic withdraw of Roche group from this field, China is becoming the manu-facturing base of Vitamin C substance in the world. This will further help China to be a big manufacturing and consuming country of Vitamin C nutrient.
Like many other manufacture industries, Chinese enterprises gradually gain the in-ternational market based on low cost and stable quality and present strong com-petitiveness in the primary market. The actual export volume of Vitamin C is above 30,000 tons in 2002, occupying 40% share in the international market.
