Having a complicated composition, tourmaline is a kind of silicate ore that contains Al, Na, Fe and Li in the annuloid structure with the characteristics of B content in it. It is generally produced from granite pegmatite and hydatothermal ore deposits, being one of the typical hydatothermal ores. Tourmaline is a kind of industrial ore with high development potential. In so far as its name, mineralogists believe through researches that the stone is charged with different polarities of electricity, positive and negative, at its ends after being heated so that it can attract particles such as dust. This ore is named after such characteristics of thermoelectricity. For its characteristics above mentioned, tourmaline can be applied in the following fields.
1. The electronic industry. It can be used for wavelength modification devices in the radio industry and used as the sheet polarizer of polariscope. Tourmaline fully crystallized without crook and crack can be used for piezoelectric gauges for determining surge pressure in air or in water.
2. Scoustoelectric material. Tourmaline can be used as sonar elements.
3. Reference for material tests and elements of instruments and industrial equipment.
4. Electromagnetic wave protector. Such a protector can prevent the harmful electromagnetic wave from intruding into human body and change it into far infrared ray hurtles to human body.
